We have entered the evening, and the whole kingdom belongs to Allah. Praise is to Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good of what follows it, and I take refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows. My Lord, I take refuge in You from laziness and the misery of old age. My Lord, I take refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire and the punishment of the grave.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should the evening adhkar be recited?
The time begins after ʿAṣr and extends until Maghrib (strictest opinion) or until ʿIshāʾ (broader opinion). The preferred window is between ʿAṣr and Maghrib.
How does the evening set differ from the morning set?
Three differences: (1) 'aṣbaḥnā' (we entered morning) changes to 'amsaynā' (we entered evening); (2) the A'udhu bi-kalimati-llahi al-tammah dhikr is especially emphasized in evening per Sahih Muslim #2708; (3) the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah are often added at night per Bukhari #4008.
What if I fall asleep before finishing?
No sin. If you regularly fall asleep, try starting right after ʿAṣr rather than just before Maghrib. Understanding outweighs quantity.
Are the three Quls before sleep the same as evening adhkar?
They overlap. Three Quls in evening adhkar are recited three times each. Before sleep, the Prophet ﷺ recited them once each, blew into cupped hands, and wiped over his body (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī #5017). Both practices are Sunnah.
Are there weak narrations in popular adhkar compilations?
Yes — some compilations include Daʿīf narrations. Dhikr applies a strict Sahih/Hasan-only filter. If an entry's grade cannot be confirmed to at least Hasan level, it is not included. See the methodology page.
Can women recite these during menstruation?
Yes. Adhkar — dhikr, duʿāʾ, istighfār, tasbīḥ — are not conditional on ritual purity. The only restricted practice in some scholarly views is touching a physical mushaf; reciting from memory (including Ayat al-Kursi) is permitted by the majority.
