Summary: Dhikr does not sell your data, does not track you across apps, and does not require an account to use core features. Your worship is between you and Allah — we keep it that way.
1. Who We Are
Dhikr (ذِكر) is an Islamic companion app developed by Bayt al-Hikmah. We are based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. You can contact us at [email protected].
2. What Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the app:
- Location (GPS) — used only to calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your location. Never stored on our servers. Never shared.
- Email address — only if you sign up for our waitlist or create an optional account. Never sold.
- App usage data — challenge participation and prayer tracking stored locally on your device only.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not track you across other apps or websites
- We do not sell your personal data to any third party
- We do not collect your name, phone number, or address
- We do not use advertising tracking pixels
- We do not share your data with advertisers
4. Prayer Times & Location
Your GPS coordinates are used only in real-time to calculate prayer times using astronomical algorithms. They are processed on your device and are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
5. Worship Data
Your prayer tracking, Tasbih counts, Quran reading progress, and challenge participation are stored locally on your device. If you create an optional account for cross-device sync, this data is stored securely using Supabase with encryption in transit and at rest.
6. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following free, privacy-respecting services:
- AlAdhan API — prayer time calculations (no personal data sent)
- EveryAyah.com — Quran audio (no personal data sent)
- OpenStreetMap — mosque finder (no personal data sent)
7. Children's Privacy
Dhikr is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. To make a request, email us at [email protected].
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app and website. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
